1-Aminocyclopent-3-ene-1-carboxylic acid is a modified amino acid, which is the amide of glutamic and acidic carboxylic acids. It has been shown to have chemotactic activity for neutrophils and monocytes and to be neuroprotective against glutamate excitotoxicity. 1-Aminocyclopent-3-ene-1-carboxylic acid has also been shown to have an active analogue, which is a synthetic molecule that mimics the effects of the natural compound on one or more molecular targets. The active analogue of this chemokine can bind to metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) and inhibit their activity, leading to reduced production of nitric oxide.
