The compound is a hydrogen bond donor and a strong hydrophobic ligand, which may be responsible for its binding to the active site of HATs.; 2APT inhibits the activity of HATs by forming a covalent bond with the catalytic cysteine residue in the active site. This inhibition leads to decreased acetylation of histones, which results in changes in gene expression and ultimately cell growth arrest or apoptosis.
