Thyroxine 4™-O-Sulfate-13C6 is a selenium compound that is used as a radioactive tracer for the study of thyroid hormone metabolism. It binds to the thyroxine receptor on the surface of cells and is taken up by cells in a sodium dependent manner. This compound is not metabolized and can be used to measure the uptake of thyroid hormones in both humans and rats. Thyroxine 4™-O-Sulfate-13C6 also has been shown to have an effect on serum bilirubin levels, which may be due to its ability to inhibit organic anion transporters (OATs). Thyroxine 4™-O-Sulfate-13C6 has been associated with drug reactions in some individuals, including those who are taking estrone sulfate. This compound also exhibits hydroxyl group binding properties.
