EF-5 has been shown to inhibit tumor growth by binding to DNA and inhibiting transcription and replication. EF-5 also stimulates the immune system by binding to human immunoglobulin G (IgG) and stimulating the production of antibodies against tumors. EF-5 binds to nucleic acids, including DNA, RNA, or single stranded DNA or RNA, with a high affinity and specificity. EF-5 is also used in radiation therapy for carcinoma cell lines.
