Beschreibung:Glycerol 1-(26-hydroxyhexacosanoate) is a metabolite of the plant sterol, beta-sitosterol. It is a potent antimalarial agent and has been shown to be effective against plasmodium falciparum and plasmodium vivax. Glycerol 1-(26-hydroxyhexacosanoate) inhibits the growth of the malaria parasite by inhibiting enzymes that are required for its survival. The enzyme hydrolysis of glycerol 1-(26-hydroxyhexacosanoate) by cytochrome P450 2B6 produces 26-hydroxycholesterol and 26-hydroxydihydrocorticosterone, which have been shown to have antiplasmodial activity as well.
