Beschreibung:Arginine vasopressin (AVP) is a neurohypophysial hormone that is synthesized in the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. The major function of AVP is to regulate extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte homeostasis via its anti-diuretic action. It is also a vasoconstrictor and pressor agent. AVP is important to the central nervous system (CNS) and also has physiological actions in the peripheral organs, such as the kidney, heart and vascular beds.
