• Beschreibung: Temporin-SHf is a broad spectrum anti-microbial peptide (AMP) with activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and yeasts, which displays no haemolytic activity. Temporin-SHf was first isolated from the skin of the frog Pelophylax saharica and is a member of the temporin family of AMPs. Temporins are a large family of short, linear, AMPs produced in the skin of frogs belonging to Rana species, but are also found in wasp venom. Temporin-SHf is the smallest natural linear AMP found to date and has a highly hydrophobic sequence (75%) plus the highest percentage of phenylalanine residues of any known peptide (50%).Temporin-SHf works by disrupting the acyl chain packing of anionic lipid bilayers, causing cracks and microbial membrane disintegration through a detergent-like effect. Temporin-SHf is a promising candidate for the development of a new class of anti-microbial drugs.
