EPO is a human hormone that is produced in the kidney and liver, and is responsible for the production of red blood cells. It has been shown to be neuroprotective in animal models of Parkinson's disease, stroke, and head injury. EPO also has a protective effect on chronic kidney disease. The dietary requirement for EPO is not well-established, but it may be necessary to consume as little as 5-10mg per day to maintain normal levels.
