1-Methyl-2-phenylcyclopropane is a solvent that is used for the activation of unsaturated compounds. It is an alkylating agent that reacts with nucleophiles such as chloride, nitrite, and amines to produce alkyl chlorides, nitro compounds, and amides respectively. The activated 1-methyl-2-phenylcyclopropane can be converted into other solvents by adding dioxane or alcohols to form bisects. Bisected 1-methyl-2-phenylcyclopropanes are structural isomers that have been shown to have properties that are similar to the parent compound.
