Sudan Red B is a polymer film that has been modified with a specific antibody. The film is used as an absorber to measure the mass of ester compounds in a sample. Sudan Red B has been used in analytical methods for the determination of hydroxyl group and ester linkages, which are found in carotenoid pigments. Sudan Red B is also used as an analytical reagent for the determination of chilli powder samples using infrared spectroscopy. The absorbance spectrum can be altered by adding a monoclonal antibody or other chemical groups to the polymer film's surface, allowing for specific detection of compounds such as collagen.
