It is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other drugs, such as anti-inflammatory agents and antibiotics. The preparation process includes three steps: the tosylate is activated by reaction with hydrochloric acid; then it reacts with magnesium sulfate to form the crystalline salt; and finally this salt is treated with ethyl chloride to produce the hydrochloride salt, which is soluble in water.
