(4-Nitrophenyl)thiourea is a compound that has been shown to be an anticancer agent. The functional theory of this drug is based on its ability to act as a hydrogen bond donor and acceptor. This property leads to the formation of hydrogen bonds with DNA bases and thereby inhibits the synthesis of RNA, which may lead to cancer cell death. (4-Nitrophenyl)thiourea also has reactive site for fluorine, which can help in the treatment of kidney cancer by binding to DNA and forming covalent bonds with the nucleobases. It has been shown that (4-nitrophenyl)thiourea can bind to staphylococcus bacteria due to chloride's electrostatic attraction. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy has been used as a technique for detection of this drug in human liver samples.
