2-Allylanisole is a reactive chemical that undergoes a number of reactions, such as substitution and addition. It is used in the synthesis of eugenol, which is an aromatic compound found in clove oil. 2-Allylanisole reacts with chloride to form the corresponding allyl chloride. The reaction rate increases with increasing acidity and can be accelerated by adding an acid catalyst. 2-Allylanisole has two isomeric forms, cis and trans, which can be distinguished by FT-IR spectroscopy. This chemical also contains functional groups such as methylene and methoxy groups that are responsible for its reactivity.
