Disodium 4,4'-Dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate (DSDN) is a blocker of the transport system that prevents the entry of isobutyl and magnesium ions into ventricular myocytes. It reverses the phase of high-performance liquid chromatography by acting as an ionic exchange agent. DSDN binds to sulfonic acid groups on organic molecules, which are then converted to sulfonates. The reaction system can be neutralized by adding an organic solvent such as methanol or acetone. DSDN has been shown to be oxidizing and sedimenting in nature.
