- Hexylmalonic acid
- Propanedioic acid, 2-hexyl-
2-Hexyl-malonic acid is a fatty acid ester that is synthesized by the enzyme fatty acid synthase. It can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of monocarboxylic acids and amides. 2-Hexyl-malonic acid has been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of fatty acids and amide formation, which is required for activation of pancreatic lipase. This compound also inhibits the activity of an enzyme called carboxylesterase, which activates carboxylic acids and esters. The functional groups on this compound are hydroxyl group, carbonyl group, and activated methylene group.
