- 1-(Isothiocyanatomethyl)-3-Methylbenzene
3-Methylbenzoyl isothiocyanate (MBITC) is a small molecule that belongs to the class of thiocarbonyl compounds. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), which catalyzes the conversion of L-tryptophan to N-formylkynurenine. MBITC has also been shown to have conformational properties that are centrosymmetric and conformational. These properties are determined by its multinuclearity, fingerprint, and vibrational spectra. The carbonyl groups present in MBITC allow for this compound to react with chloride ions in an acidic environment. This reaction produces a carbonyl chloride ion, which can be used as a reagent for organic synthesis techniques such as dihedral and conformation reactions.
