1,4-β-D-Mannosyl-1,4-β-D-glucosyl-D-mannose is a glycosylation agent that can be used for the synthesis of complex carbohydrates. The compound is also methylated and fluorinated. 1,4-β-D-Mannosyl-1,4-β-D-glucosyl-D-mannose is synthesized from D-(+)-mannose and β-(1→2)-dihydroxyacetone in two steps with a yield of greater than 95%. This compound has been shown to be useful in the synthesis of oligosaccharides and monosaccharides.
