Sisunatovir is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antiviral agent. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of many viruses, including the influenza virus, and it has also shown anti-parasitic and antibacterial activity. Sisunatovir belongs to a class of chemical compounds called nucleoside analogues. It inhibits DNA synthesis by competing with natural nucleosides for incorporation into viral DNA or by acting as an antagonist of the enzyme RNA polymerase II. The drug appears to be well tolerated with few side effects and is active against drug-resistant strains of HIV.
