Beschreibung

Onitisin is a sesquiterpene lactone that inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer and lung cancer cell lines in vitro. The mechanism of action is unknown, but it is thought to be due to the inhibition of protein synthesis. Onitisin binds to the active site of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and blocks the breakdown of acetylcholine, which leads to an increase in muscle contraction and paralysis. In addition, onitisin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may be useful in treating neurodermatitis or fimbristylis.
