It is a yellow solid with an x-ray diffraction pattern consisting of three peaks at 2.6 Å, 3.4 Å, and 7.1 Å. The molecule can be represented by the structural formula CHClN(CH)C(CH)Cl in which the two methyl groups are on adjacent carbons (1 and 2). This compound also exists as two isomers: 4-chloro-2,7,8-trimethylquinoline and 4-chloro-2-(3,5-, or 6-)dimethylquinoline.
