Beschreibung

4-Chloromethyl-5-methyl-2-phenyloxazole is an oxychloride that has been shown to have hypoglycemic activity. This compound is a derivative of 2,5-dimethyloxazole and has been synthesized in high yield by the reaction of phosphorus oxychloride with butanedione. The structure activity relationship studies have shown that the presence of chlorine in the 5 position on this molecule increases its hypoglycemic activity. This compound also reacts with acetate solution to give elemental analysis, which can be used to identify it.
