The peptide S-[(6S)-7-oxo-6-[[[(2R)-5-oxo-2-pyrrolidinyl]carbonyl]amino]-7-(phenylamino)heptyl] ethanethioate is a potent inhibitor of the phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) enzyme. This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of the second messenger cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which has been shown to regulate many physiological processes including inflammation, cell proliferation and differentiation, and apoptosis.
