Beschreibung

1-Cyclopropyl-4-isothiocyanatonaphthalene (CITN) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against the transport of organic anions. CITN has been tested in animals, showing no renal toxicity. It is a potential drug candidate for the treatment of environmental pollution and renal disease. CITN binds to the transporter protein at the luminal surface of kidney cells and blocks its function, preventing the reabsorption of organic anions into the blood stream. This leads to a build up of these substances in the kidneys and makes them more excretable by increasing their concentration in urine. CITN is also bioisosteric with amino acids and peptides that are substrates for transporters, which may lead to better absorption rates.
