RN 9893 is a novel, non-peptide, orally available, small molecule that antagonizes the TGF-β1 receptor. This drug has been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. RN 9893 has also been shown to reduce microbial load in mice with disseminated candidiasis. Combination therapy with this compound was found to be more effective than monotherapy for the treatment of cancer cells. More research is needed before this drug can be used to treat human cancers.
