Beschreibung

Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits the production of prostaglandins, substances that promote inflammation. It is used in the treatment of arthritic and other inflammatory diseases. Indomethacin has been shown to inhibit the activity of both carrageenan and populnin, two substances used to induce inflammation in experimental animals. This drug also has potent anti-inflammatory effects which have been demonstrated experimentally. In addition, this drug has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of protein kinase C, an enzyme involved in cellular signal transduction pathways. These properties may account for its use as an anti-inflammatory agent.
