Tetrahexylammonium bromide is an ionic compound and a strong antimicrobial agent. It has been used in the treatment of colorectal adenocarcinoma, where it was shown to have a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect on cancer cells. Tetrahexylammonium bromide has also been found to be effective against bacteria by inhibiting their ability to synthesize DNA and RNA. The mechanism of this inhibition is not fully understood, but may be due to the effects of tetrahexylammonium bromide on water vapor or chloride ions. Tetrahexylammonium bromide can be used as a catalyst for polymerization reactions and as an analytical reagent for high values in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements.
