Beschreibung

Zanamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor that blocks the release of progeny virions from infected cells. It binds to the neuraminidase enzyme and prevents the release of virus particles from infected cells by blocking the action of this enzyme. Zanamivir is also used as an anti-influenza drug and has been shown to be active against influenza A and B, including oseltamivir-resistant strains. This drug inhibits sialic acid synthesis, which may be related to its anti-influenza activity. Zanamivir is a carbocyclic compound with a molecular weight of 266.4 g/mol. The affinity of zanamivir for sialic acid is measured by its inhibition constant (Ki) value, which is 0.03 nM for human erythrocytes and 0.005 nM for influenza A virions in vitro.
