Beschreibung:Oxytrimethylline is a theophylline-related drug that is used for chronic pulmonary diseases. Oxytrimethylline is not absorbed well from the gut, so it must be given intravenously to achieve therapeutic concentrations in the blood. Oxytrimethylline has been shown to inhibit the growth of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and human bronchial epithelial cells by inhibiting protein synthesis at the ribosome level. It also has anti-inflammatory effects and may be useful in treating bowel disease and asthma. Slow-release formulations of oxytrimethylline are available for geriatric patients who have difficulty swallowing or have decreased gastrointestinal motility.
