Beschreibung

3,5-Diamino-6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylic acid is a sodium channel blocker. It competitively inhibits the binding of acetylcholine to the receptor site in the neuromuscular junction, thereby blocking the transmission of nerve impulses and causing paralysis. 3,5-Diamino-6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to be effective in treating dyskinesia, pulmonary disease, and asthma. This drug also prevents emulsifying agents from forming micelles that are required for absorption by the gastrointestinal tract. 3,5-Diamino-6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylic acid also blocks epithelial sodium channels that are responsible for regulating the flow of salt and water into cells. The active esters of this compound are found to be effective in treating chronic bronchitis and emphysema as well as other pulmonary diseases.
