It has been shown to inhibit the catalytic activity of alpha-glucosidases, which are enzymes that break down complex sugars into simpler ones. 6-Bromo-2-naphthyl a-D-glucopyranoside inhibits alpha glucosidase by binding to the active site, preventing substrate from entering and blocking the catalytic site. The enzyme is inhibited by both l-arabinose and galactose residues, but not by galactosyl residues. This process generates an equilibrium between products and reactants, with a higher concentration of reactants than products.
