Oxysophoridine has been shown to inhibit the DNA polymerase activity and is able to bind to specific regions of duplex DNA. This binding prevents the formation of a new duplex with the complementary strand, which inhibits cell division. Oxysophoridine also inhibits the production of pro-apoptotic proteins in cancer cells by binding to toll-like receptor 4.
