Oxysophoridine is a nucleoside analog that can be used as a treatment for chemotherapy-induced injury, such as cerebral injury, myocardial infarcts, and cancer tissue. Oxysophoridine has been shown to inhibit the DNA polymerase activity and is able to bind to specific regions of duplex DNA. This binding prevents the formation of a new duplex with the complementary strand, which inhibits cell division. Oxysophoridine also inhibits the production of pro-apoptotic proteins in cancer cells by binding to toll-like receptor 4.
