N-Acetyl-thiohydantoin is an amide with a molecular weight of 164.32 g/mol. It has a crystalline structure and can be found in the form of hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride. N-Acetyl-thiohydantoin is used in the treatment of human carcinoma cells and has potent antibacterial activity against Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis. The compound also inhibits hepg2 cells by binding to DNA and RNA synthesis enzymes. The molecular orbital (MO) theory predicts that this is due to the presence of a carbonyl group that forms intermolecular hydrogen bonding with the amide group on the same molecule or another molecule. This causes a decrease in energy and an increase in the degree of order within these molecules, which leads to inhibition of biological processes such as protein synthesis
