3-Amino-4-methylbenzoic acid is a chemical that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to have receptor binding activity and is able to inhibit aminotransferase activity. 3-Amino-4-methylbenzoic acid has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of ptp1b, an enzyme that degrades phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-triphosphate. This property may be useful for treating inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. 3-Amino-4-methylbenzoic acid binds to the active site of ptp1b with high affinity and forms a coordination complex with two zinc ions. Monomers are also able to bind to ptp1b and inhibit its function.
