4-Aminononafluorobiphenyl is an anion that is generated by the reaction of a nonpolar solvent with an amine in the presence of hydrogen fluoride as a catalyst. 4-Aminononafluorobiphenyl has been shown to be effective in activating organometallic compounds, such as unsymmetrical organometallic compounds. In addition, the technique of protonation can be used to determine the structure and properties of 4-aminononafluorobiphenyl. The energy required for activation is determined by comparing the rate at which protonated and unprotonated molecules react with hydrogen fluoride.
