• Beschreibung: Alvelestat is an inhibitor of the enzyme acid sphingomyelinase (ASM). ASM is required for the production of ceramide, which is a key regulator in cell proliferation and apoptosis. Alvelestat has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice with chronic pulmonary inflammation and human myeloid-derived suppressor cells. It also prevents the development of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome in animals exposed to high levels of inhaled hydrochloric acid. Clinical studies have shown that alvelestat may be useful as a treatment for cancer, as well as skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema. This drug inhibits the growth factor epidermal growth factor and has been shown to bind to particles with a diameter less than 100 nm.
