It is a proteolytic product of neurotensin, an endogenous peptide that has been implicated in a number of physiological and pathological processes. Acetyl-neurotensin (8-13) Ac-Arg-Arg-Pro-Tyr-Ile-Leu-(OH) binds to the membrane receptors on neurons and blocks the binding of neuropeptides such as neurotensin and substance P to these receptors, thereby inhibiting their effects on the central nervous system. This compound is soluble in water and can be used for bladder protection by preventing the accumulation of urine.
