This drug has been shown to have a variety of biological effects, including cardiac and bowel disease, as well as hypertension. HAV has also been shown to reduce the risk of heart failure in people with chronic kidney disease. HAV binds to the protein PCSK9 and inhibits its function by binding to the epsilon site on PCSK9. This leads to an increase in low density lipoprotein cholesterol and a decrease in high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. HAV also has an amide group that allows it to inhibit angiotensin II and act as a pressor agent.
