Beschreibung

Lobucavir is a selective inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that inhibits viral replication by binding to the viral reverse transcriptase. It also has antiviral prophylactic activity against herpes simplex virus type 2 and varicella-zoster virus types 1 and 2, as well as cytomegalovirus. Lobucavir inhibits the acyclic nucleoside phosphonate polymerase chain reaction, which is used in the diagnosis of HIV infection. This drug has been shown to be safe and effective in clinical trials for preventing HIV infection in high-risk populations, including those with advanced HIV disease or those who are not infected but at risk of acquiring HIV due to sexual exposure. The drug is orally active and can be taken once daily, which may reduce the development of resistant strains.
