4-Amino-N-methylbenzenesulfonamide is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins. It also has a pharmacophore similar to that of sulfanilamide and acts as an agonist at the receptor molecule. 4-Amino-N-methylbenzenesulfonamide is used in biochemical assays to study the interaction between NSAIDs and their receptor molecules, which may lead to the development of new drugs. This drug was postulated to inhibit bacterial growth by substituting for penicillin G in the formation of sulfa drugs.
