3-Aminoheptanoic acid is an organic compound that has been shown to have antifungal properties. The result of this compound's esterification with phenylacetic acid and hydrochloric acid, 3-aminoheptanoic acid is a reactive carboxylic acid that can be used as a lipase or esterase substrate. 3-Aminoheptanoic acid can also be used as a catalyst for the enantioselective synthesis of butanoates from chiral alcohols such as pivalaldehyde. This substance is characterized by its reactive nature, but also by its enantiomeric purity and high degree of chemical stability.
