Beschreibung

4-Amino-4-methylpentanoic acid is a prebiotic that is produced by the fermentation of various carbohydrates. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may be used as a food additive or dietary supplement. This compound can be synthesized by the reduction of 4-methylpentanal, a reaction that requires an excess of deuterated methanol. This method was found to be more effective than using common methanol, which produces less product. The synthesis of 4-amino-4-methylpentanoic acid was also improved by adding activated carbon, which enhances the production of this compound. In addition, chiral resolution techniques have also been used for the separation and purification of this molecule. Studies have demonstrated that this compound has GABAergic activity in brain homogenates and inhibits acetaldehyde production in prebiotics.
