Beschreibung

2-Amino-4-(methylsulfonyl)butanoic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of sulfonamides. It is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active form, 4-(methylsulfonyl)butanamide. 2-Amino-4-(methylsulfonyl)butanoic acid has been shown to be effective in the treatment of pain and inflammation in animal models. The mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase. This drug also inhibits glutamate release and may have epigenetic modulating effects on gene expression. 2-Amino-4-(methylsulfonyl)butanoic acid has been found to have matrix effect on physiological effects such as blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration.
