3-Aminohomopiperidine is a synthetic compound that is an analog of the natural amino acid histidine. It is a potent inhibitor of histone deacetylase, which may be due to its ability to bind covalently with the active site and inhibit access of acetyl groups. 3-Aminohomopiperidine has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro, and has been modeled using molecular dynamics simulations. This drug also binds to and inhibits cisplatin in vitro. The molecule can exist as two different enantiomers: cis and trans. The cis form is more potent than the trans form in inhibiting histone deacetylase, but both forms have similar binding affinities with cisplatin.
