Beschreibung

Beta-asarone is a natural product found in plants such as the roots of Asarum heterotropoides and the roots of Acorus calamus. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against some cancer cells, such as breast, lung, and prostate cancer cells. Beta-asarone also naturally induces autophagy in a dose-dependent manner. This process is essential for cancer cell survival under conditions of stress and may be an important mechanism by which beta-asarone exerts its cytotoxic effects. The biological properties of beta-asarone have been investigated using a model system with human breast cancer cell lines. These studies show that beta-asarone inhibits the expression of certain genes involved in apoptosis pathways, leading to the induction of apoptosis. Beta-asarone has been shown to be genotoxic, inducing DNA damage and chromosomal aberrations in cultured human lymphocytes at low doses.
