In the second step, phenylcyclohexanol reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce phenylcyclohexanone, which is then oxidized with hydrogen peroxide to yield impurity G. Impurity G can also be found in the pharmacopoeia as a high purity HPLC standard for linagliptin.
