Beschreibung

2-(Aminomethyl)phenylacetic acid-Hydrochloride is a lactam that is synthesized by the refluxing of 2-indanone, hydrochloric acid, and phenylacetic acid. It can be prepared from 2-aminophenol and acetaldehyde with the addition of hydrochloric acid. The product is then treated with phenylacetyl chloride to form an oxime. This is then reduced with phosphorous pentachloride to yield the desired compound. The reactants and products are all inorganic acids or bases. The desired product can be purified by crystallization or recrystallization.
