Beschreibung

2-Amino-5-phenylpentanoicacid is a modified amino acid. It can be found in the human body, where it is involved in the biosynthesis of growth hormone. 2-Amino-5-phenylpentanoicacid substitutes for phenylalanine at position 55 of the dipeptide sequence, which makes it an analog of this natural amino acid. The benzyl group and benzyl side chain are modifications that increase its hydrophobicity, while the substitution of the phenyl ring with a different aromatic ring increases its lipophilicity. This leads to higher potency as a secretagogue. 2-Amino-5-phenylpentanoicacid is able to stimulate growth hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary gland by binding to receptors on cells in this region.
