4-Amidinophenylmethanesulphonyl fluoride HCl is a cell-permeable inhibitor of intracellular proteases. It has been shown to bind to basic proteins and inhibit their proteolytic activity. 4-Amidinophenylmethanesulphonyl fluoride HCl is also an inhibitor of protein synthesis, which may be due to its ability to bind to the ribosomal subunit. This agent has been shown to block the production of polypeptides by inhibiting the binding of sephadex g-100 and dextran sulfate. It also blocks the formation of disulfide bonds in proteins, thereby preventing them from being degraded by proteases.
4-Amidinophenylmethanesulphonyl fluoride HCl is a cytotoxic compound that induces cell lysis by increasing cytosolic calcium levels. The signal peptide sequence that it contains is cleaved off during translation and it can then enter the nucleus
