2, 6-Dimethyl-L-tyrosine is a drug that binds to the receptor for substance P. It is a cyclic peptide that has been shown to be an antagonist of substance P and capsaicin in vitro. 2, 6-Dimethyl-L-tyrosine has pharmacokinetic properties that allow it to cross the blood brain barrier and enter the central nervous system. This compound can also inhibit mitochondrial respiration in vitro, which may contribute to its analgesic effects. 2, 6-Dimethyl-L-tyrosine also inhibits platelet aggregation and has been shown to be useful in vivo models for pain relief.
