4-Amino-2-chloropyridine is an organic compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their DNA and prevents transcription and replication. 4-Amino-2-chloropyridine binds to the bacterial ligand, n-oxide, with a high affinity. This binding leads to the protonation of the nitrogen atom in the aminopyridine ring and cleavage of the N-O bond, which destroys the bacterial cell wall. 4-Amino-2-chloropyridine also has anti tumor activity and can be used as a chemotherapeutic agent against certain types of cancer cells.
